Senior Portrait Session for a Canton High School Boy at Bradley Estate

When Charlie’s Mom reached out to me regarding creating their son’s high school senior portraits she described him as active, loves the outdoors. he is sweet natured and attends to emotions. he is respectful and non rebellious soul. Charlie takes a lot of Joy in simple things and has a lot of love and care for his younger siblings. he Is the oldest of 3 with a younger sister and brother.

He has a twinkle in his eye when he laughs and when he is delighting. Easy going, helpful, well liked and very support of his younger siblings.

He has a great love for the outdoors and skis and snowboards

Mom wanted me to capture the essence of his personality

Earlier this Fall, I had a great experience taking photos of a young man named Charlie at the Bradley Estate in Canton, MA and I wanted to share my experience with you.

It was a beautiful September afternoon – perfect for outdoor photography. Natural light of course, is critical when taking photographs outdoors and we were truly blessed with a day of diffuse lighting, with subtle sunlight trying to break through some high, thin clouds. Take a look at the photographs and you’ll see that we were not lacking for gorgeous background scenery! The grounds of the Bradley Estate are truly stunning and I recommend it for a nature walk.

Charlie attends Canton High School in Canton, Massachusetts and he’s the oldest of three children, with a younger sister and brother. He’s a great big brother and friend, well liked among his peers and well loved by his family. He takes joy in the simple things, and has a twinkle in his eye when he smiles. We decided that a set of photographs in a simple country setting was just the thing for Charlie!

One reason that I’m a photographer is because it’s a real pleasure for me to guide my clients through the process of having their portraits taken. I always take the time to talk with my clients ahead of time about how they visualize what they want their photographs to look like, and what different messages can be conveyed by clothing choices. In Charlie’s case, we agreed that we wanted a casual, informal look for his photographs that would reflect his calm, easy-going manner. I’m sure you’ll agree that a young man in a  business suit would look out of place in that meadow, but a young man in a simple shirt, belt, and khakis looks right at home.

Once we were onsite, Charlie didn’t miss a beat. He was so easy to work with, and the time flew. As we  walked around the estate to reach my favorite location, he talked about his home, his family and his friends and I really got a sense that he is mature beyond his years. He’s clearly headed for big things in his life – he’s a helpful, caring, and responsible individual. What a wonderful thing it will be for his family to have these photographs to look back on this pivotal time in his life – a young man about to launch into college and his career.

Oh, and one more thing that was special about this session - it doesn’t always happen that someone brings their dog to be a part of their photo session but I’m so glad that he did! This is the family’s rescue dog, Mapenzi, and they clearly have a special bond (and he’s obviously a very good dog).

If you have a young person in your house, like Charlie, that is about to leave home for college or the military, consider how important it is to have some portraits taken by a professional photographer. These are the years of big changes in their lives and that of your family – don’t miss your chance to capture who they are at this moment.
